The business

Viatris Inc. (NASDAQ: VTRS) is a global healthcare company headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with additional global centers in Shanghai, China and Hyderabad, India. The company operates at www.viatris.com and supplies high-quality medicines to approximately one billion patients annually across more than 165 countries and territories.

Viatris operates through four reportable segments: Developed Markets, Emerging Markets, JANZ (Japan, Australia, and New Zealand), and Greater China. The company maintains a diversified portfolio of more than 1,400 approved molecules spanning generics, globally recognized iconic brands, and an expanding portfolio of innovative medicines. The company employs more than 30,000 people and operates 27 manufacturing, packaging, and distribution sites worldwide across five continents, producing oral solid doses, injectables, and complex dosage forms.

The company was formed in November 2020 through a Reverse Morris Trust transaction combining Mylan N.V. with Pfizer's Upjohn Business. Mylan, founded in 1961, had grown into one of the largest generic manufacturers globally through strategic acquisitions including Matrix Laboratories, Merck KGaA's generic business, Abbott's non-U.S. specialty pharmaceuticals, and Meda AB. The Upjohn Business contributed established off-patent branded medicines including Lyrica, Lipitor, Celebrex, and Viagra.

Viatris' business model emphasizes access to medicine at scale through a combination of generics, branded products, and complex drugs. The company has executed strategic divestitures to streamline operations and reduce debt, including the sale of its biosimilars portfolio to Biocon Biologics, women's healthcare business, API operations in India, and OTC business. Recent acquisitions include Aculys Pharma, providing exclusive development and commercialization rights for neurological treatments in Japan.

The company's pipeline includes late-stage innovative assets such as selatogrel and cenerimod for cardiovascular disease, as well as complex generics and 505(b)(2) products. Viatris reported 2025 total revenues of $14.30 billion and maintains a global supply chain designed to ensure reliable access to medicines across diverse markets and therapeutic areas including cardiovascular health, oncology, infectious diseases, and noncommunicable diseases.

Fund ownership counts N-PORT filers only, so it is a floor rather than a census — pensions, insurers and direct holders are not visible here, and the remainder is not “held by individuals”.

Fund ownership is a subset of institutional 13F ownership — the two describe overlapping populations and must not be added together.
