The company operates through two reportable segments: Materials Group, which represents approximately 69% of net sales, and Solutions Group, representing approximately 31% of net sales. Materials Group is a leading global provider of pressure-sensitive label and graphics materials, including Fasson, JAC, and Avery Dennison brand label materials, performance tapes, graphics products, and reflective materials. Solutions Group provides information and branding solutions encompassing ultra-high-frequency RFID inlays and tags, item-level RFID solutions, price ticketing and marking, brand protection solutions, and shelf-edge productivity solutions under the Vestcom brand.

Avery Dennison employs approximately 35,000 people across more than 200 manufacturing and distribution facilities in more than 50 countries. Approximately 83% of employees are located outside the United States, with nearly 58% in Asia Pacific. International operations represent approximately 69% of net sales, with approximately 40% of net sales originating in emerging markets across Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia Pacific.

The company was founded in 1935 and incorporated in Delaware in 1977 as Avery International Corporation. In 1990, Avery merged with Dennison Manufacturing Company, resulting in the current corporate name. The company maintains strong brand recognition through its principal trademarks including Avery Dennison, Fasson, and its corporate logo.

Avery Dennison's competitive advantages include its technical expertise in materials science and adhesive technology, broad product portfolio, reliable service, innovation capabilities, global distribution network, and ability to serve customers with comprehensive solutions near their manufacturing and sourcing locations.
