The company employs approximately 72,000 associates located in 61 countries and maintains manufacturing operations across multiple continents including facilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, China, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. BD distributes its products through independent distribution channels and direct sales to healthcare institutions, utilizing acute care, non-acute care and laboratory wholesaler distributors in the United States and a combination of direct and distributor channels internationally.
BD has a significant intellectual property portfolio including patents, trademarks and proprietary technologies, though no single patent or trademark is material to the business as a whole. The company conducts research and development activities across global centers of excellence located in the United States, India, China, Singapore and Ireland, with the majority of R&D conducted in North America.
Recent significant corporate actions include the completed acquisition of Edwards Lifesciences' Critical Care product group in September 2024, which was integrated as BD Advanced Patient Monitoring, and the proposed combination of BD's Biosciences and Diagnostic Solutions business with Waters Corporation through a Reverse Morris Trust transaction expected to close in the first quarter of calendar year 2026. BD previously completed the spin-off of its Diabetes Care business as Embecta Corp in April 2022 and the sale of its Surgical Instrumentation platform in August 2023.
