The business

Planet Labs PBC (NYSE: PL) operates as a leading commercial Earth observation company with a mission to use space to help life on Earth by imaging the world daily and making global change visible, accessible, and actionable. The company's website is www.planet.com.

Planet has designed, built, launched, and operated hundreds of satellites that collect a comprehensive dataset of over 3,000 images on average for every point on Earth's landmass, creating a non-replicable historical archive dating back to 2009 for daily scanning data and 2017 for continuous monitoring. The company's core business generates revenue primarily through cloud-based platform subscriptions and usage-based contracts for satellite imagery, data analytics, and AI-enabled solutions. Additionally, Planet provides satellite services arrangements to large-scale government and enterprise customers, including designing and manufacturing customer-owned satellites, mission systems engineering, launch procurement, ground station infrastructure, satellite operations, and maintenance.

Planet's satellite fleet includes SuperDove satellites for daily global monitoring at up to 3.5-meter resolution, SkySat and Pelican high-resolution tasking satellites capable of capturing images at up to 50-centimeter resolution multiple times daily, and Tanager hyperspectral satellites delivering full-spectrum imagery across visible and shortwave infrared regions. The company serves customers across agriculture, defense and intelligence, energy, forestry, finance, insurance, mapping, and civil government sectors globally.

The company operates on an agile aerospace methodology, leveraging miniaturization and rapid development cycles to deliver compact, high-performance satellites at significantly lower costs than traditional aerospace companies. Planet's competitive advantages include its proprietary big data archive, advanced analytics capabilities powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning, scalable one-to-many business model where captured images can be sold to unlimited customers, and proven operational expertise in satellite manufacturing and fleet management.

As of January 31, 2026, Planet employed approximately 1,000 people, including roughly 945 full-time employees, operating across 29 countries worldwide. The company operates as a Delaware public benefit corporation, aligning its commercial mission with environmental and social impact objectives.

Fund ownership counts N-PORT filers only, so it is a floor rather than a census — pensions, insurers and direct holders are not visible here, and the remainder is not “held by individuals”.

Fund ownership is a subset of institutional 13F ownership — the two describe overlapping populations and must not be added together.
