The business

EnerSys (NYSE: ENS) is a world leader in stored energy solutions for industrial applications, designing, manufacturing, and distributing energy systems, motive power batteries, specialty batteries, battery chargers, power equipment, and outdoor equipment enclosure solutions to customers worldwide. The company operates through four primary business segments: Energy Systems, which provides uninterruptible power systems for telecommunications, broadband, data centers, and utilities; Motive Power, which supplies batteries and chargers for electric forklifts, automated guided vehicles, and material handling equipment; Specialty, which serves aerospace, defense, transportation, and medical markets with premium batteries and portable power solutions; and New Ventures, which offers energy storage and management systems for demand charge reduction, utility backup power, and electric vehicle fast charging.

Founded over 125 years ago through predecessor companies, EnerSys was incorporated in 2000 and completed its initial public offering in 2004. The company has grown through strategic acquisitions, including the 2002 acquisition of Invensys's Energy Storage Group and the 2024 acquisition of Bren-Tronics Defense LLC for $206.4 million, which strengthened its specialty segment with portable lithium battery and charging solutions for military applications. The company maintains manufacturing and assembly facilities across the Americas, EMEA, and Asia regions, serving over 10,000 customers in more than 100 countries through company-owned sales and service facilities and independent representatives.

As of March 31, 2026, EnerSys employed approximately 9,682 people, with roughly 31 percent covered by collective bargaining agreements. The company's competitive advantages include its proprietary thin plate pure lead technology, extensive global manufacturing footprint, and established relationships with major original equipment manufacturers and end users. Primary raw materials include lead, lithium, nickel, cobalt, plastics, steel, and copper, with raw material costs representing over half of cost of goods sold. EnerSys maintains ISO 9001 certification across all manufacturing locations and holds additional certifications including ISO 14001 for environmental management and specialized certifications for aerospace, medical, rail, and automotive applications.
