The business

Motorola Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: MSI) is a global leader in mission-critical safety and security technologies serving public safety agencies, government entities including defense, and enterprise customers across more than 100 countries. The company's website is www.motorolasolutions.com.

The company operates through two reportable segments: Products and Systems Integration, which generated 62 percent of consolidated net sales in 2025, and Software and Services, which accounted for 38 percent. Within these segments, Motorola Solutions organizes its business around three principal technology platforms. Mission Critical Networks encompasses infrastructure, devices, software and AI-powered capabilities for land mobile radio communications, including Project 25 and TETRA systems, as well as broadband and MANET technologies for public safety and defense applications. Video includes cameras, access control systems, sensors, and video management software with AI-powered analytics for security and surveillance. Command Center provides cloud-native and on-premises software solutions that unify voice and data communications across the entire public safety workflow, from initial emergency calls through case closure.

Motorola Solutions employs approximately 23,000 people globally, with 51 percent based in North America and 49 percent in international regions. Approximately 40 percent of the workforce is engaged in research and development and engineering activities, with principal facilities located in the United States, Poland, and Malaysia. The company serves a fragmented customer base spanning federal, state, county, and municipal government agencies, as well as enterprise customers including schools, hospitals, businesses, and stadiums. The U.S. government represents the company's largest customer, accounting for approximately 8 percent of consolidated net sales.

The company maintains a robust intellectual property portfolio comprising approximately 6,630 granted patents in the U.S. and foreign countries, with approximately 690 patent applications pending. Motorola Solutions licenses the Motorola brand and related trademarks from Motorola Trademark Holdings, LLC. The company has grown through organic development and strategic acquisitions, including the August 2025 acquisition of Silvus Technologies, a designer of software-defined MANET technology, which expanded the company's mission-critical networks capabilities and defense market opportunities.
