The business
Coeur Mining, Inc. (NYSE: CDE) is a precious metals producer founded in 1928 with mining operations across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The company operates through five primary mining segments: Las Chispas, an underground silver-gold mine in Sonora, Mexico acquired in early 2025; Palmarejo, a silver-gold complex in Chihuahua, Mexico operating since 2009; Rochester, an open pit heap leach silver-gold mine in Nevada operating since 1986 and expanded significantly in 2024; Kensington, an underground gold mine in Alaska operating since 2010; and Wharf, an open pit heap leach gold mine in South Dakota operating since 1982. The company also operates the Silvertip underground silver-zinc-lead exploration project in British Columbia, Canada. In November 2025, Coeur entered into a definitive agreement to acquire New Gold Inc., which would add two Canadian operations, New Afton and Rainy River, expected to close in the first half of 2026.
As of December 31, 2025, Coeur employed approximately 2,620 employees across its operations, with over 2,093 additional contractors supporting operations. The company maintains a geographically diverse refining and smelting network, selling gold and silver bullion to multinational banks, trading houses, and refiners globally, while marketing gold concentrate through long-term offtake agreements.
Coeur's business strategy emphasizes sustainable, high-quality cash flow generation from a balanced, prospective asset base in mining-friendly jurisdictions, guided by the purpose statement "We Pursue a Higher Standard." The company focuses on three key principles: protecting people, places, and planet; developing quality resources and growth plans; and delivering impactful results through teamwork. The company's financial performance depends substantially on gold and silver prices, which fluctuate based on factors including U.S. dollar strength, global demand and production, interest rates, and central bank policies. Coeur maintains a commitment to responsible production practices, environmental stewardship, and community engagement across all operating jurisdictions.
