The company operates through three primary divisions: QNX, Secure Communications, and Licensing. The QNX division develops safe, reliable embedded software for technology-driven industries including automotive, medical devices, robotics, and industrial automation. QNX technology is embedded in more than 275 million vehicles globally, with the division working with over 45 automakers including the top 10 OEMs and 24 of the top 25 EV manufacturers. Approximately 20 percent of QNX revenue derives from non-automotive embedded systems. The division offers the QNX real-time operating system, hypervisors, middleware, development tools, and the recently launched Alloy Kore platform developed jointly with Vector Informatik. BlackBerry Radar provides asset monitoring and telematics solutions for transportation and logistics, while BlackBerry Certicom delivers device security and product authentication through elliptic curve cryptography.

The Secure Communications division delivers government-grade secure solutions including BlackBerry SecuSUITE for encrypted voice and messaging, BlackBerry UEM for unified endpoint management, BlackBerry Workspaces for secure file sharing, and BlackBerry AtHoc for crisis communications. BlackBerry AtHoc holds FedRAMP High certification and protects more than 75 percent of U.S. government personnel. The Licensing division manages and monetizes the company's global patent portfolio of approximately 6,100 worldwide patents and applications covering operating systems, networking, cryptography, cybersecurity, and wireless communications.

As of February 28, 2026, BlackBerry employed 1,749 regular employees, contract workers, and student workers across 15 countries, with approximately 57 percent in Canada, 14 percent in the United States, and 29 percent outside North America. The company generates revenue primarily through licensing of enterprise software, subscription-based models, and associated professional services. BlackBerry competes in highly competitive markets characterized by rapid technological change and evolving customer requirements across automotive, government, financial services, transportation, healthcare, robotics, medical devices, and industrial automation sectors.
