The company operates through five primary business segments. S&P Global Market Intelligence provides multi-asset-class data and analytics integrated with workflow solutions, serving investment managers, investment banks, private equity firms, insurance companies, and government agencies through desktop products, enterprise solutions, and credit risk offerings. S&P Global Ratings functions as an independent provider of credit ratings, research, and analytics with offices in over 25 countries, serving investors, corporations, governments, and financial institutions. S&P Global Energy delivers information and benchmark prices for energy and commodity markets, including price assessments, market data, and advisory services for petroleum, gas, power, metals, and agriculture sectors. S&P Global Mobility provides solutions across the automotive value chain, serving vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, dealerships, and financial institutions through dealer analytics, manufacturing insights, and financial services offerings. S&P Dow Jones Indices maintains a wide variety of valuation and index benchmarks for investment advisors, wealth managers, and institutional investors, generating revenue through asset-linked fees and trading volume royalties.

As of December 31, 2025, the company employed approximately 44,500 permanent employees worldwide, with significant operations in Asia (26,200 employees), the United States and Canada (11,050), Europe, Middle East and Africa (6,200), and Latin America (1,050). The company generates revenue through subscription-based models, usage-based royalties, and transactional fees across its diverse business lines. In April 2025, the company announced plans to separate its Mobility segment into an independent publicly traded company through a spin-off expected to be completed mid-2026. The company was incorporated in December 1925 under New York law and has maintained a leading role in global financial infrastructure for over 150 years, particularly through its Ratings division.
