Emerson organizes its operations into six reportable segments across two business groups: Intelligent Devices and Software and Control.

The Intelligent Devices group comprises Final Control, which produces control valves and actuators; Measurement and Analytical, providing intelligent instrumentation for measuring physical properties; Discrete Automation, offering solenoid valves and automation control systems; and Safety and Productivity, delivering professional tools for infrastructure and safety applications. The Software and Control group includes Control Systems and Software, which provides distributed control systems and asset optimization software through its AspenTech subsidiary, and Test and Measurement, acquired through the National Instruments acquisition in 2023.

Emerson maintains approximately 120 manufacturing locations worldwide, with roughly 35 in the United States and 85 internationally, primarily in Europe and Asia. The company employs approximately 71,000 people globally. Geographic sales distribution reflects significant international presence, with the Americas representing 51 percent of sales, Asia, Middle East and Africa comprising 30 percent, and Europe accounting for 19 percent.

The company operates under well-established brands including Anderson Greenwood, Bettis, Crosby, Fisher, Keystone, Rosemount, ASCO, Aventics, Branson, Greenlee, and RIDGID. Emerson's competitive strategy emphasizes manufacturing high-quality products at optimal global costs while leveraging its automation portfolio to help customers optimize operations, protect personnel, and achieve sustainability objectives. The company maintains an estimated consolidated order backlog of $8.6 billion, with approximately 75 percent expected to be recognized as revenue within the following 12 months.
