The business

Lowe's Companies, Inc. (NYSE: LOW) is the world's second largest home improvement retailer, operating a comprehensive omnichannel platform that serves homeowners, renters, and professional contractors across the United States and Canada. The company maintains its primary web presence at lowes.com and operates through an integrated network of physical stores, digital channels, and service delivery capabilities.

As of January 30, 2026, Lowe's operated 1,759 home improvement stores and outlets in the United States, representing approximately 196 million square feet of retail selling space, along with over 540 branch locations serving larger professional customers. The company employs approximately 167,000 full-time associates and 109,000 part-time associates, primarily in the United States and India. The typical Lowe's store stocks approximately 37,000 items across categories including appliances, seasonal and outdoor living, lumber, lawn and garden, hardware, kitchens and bath, building materials, rough plumbing, paint, millwork, tools, electrical, flooring, and décor.

Lowe's operates through an omnichannel model enabling customers to shop in-store, online, on-site with specialists, through branch locations, and via contact centers. The company owns and operates more than 120 supply chain facilities including regional distribution centers, fulfillment centers, and cross-dock terminals. Recent acquisitions of Foundation Building Materials and Artisan Design Group in 2025 expanded the company's capabilities to serve larger professional customers in residential and commercial markets.

The company's Total Home strategy focuses on five pillars: driving professional customer penetration, accelerating online sales, expanding home services, creating a loyalty ecosystem through MyLowe's Rewards, and increasing space productivity through localized assortments. Lowe's maintains valuable intellectual property including registered trademarks such as Kobalt, STAINMASTER, and allen+roth private brands, along with various patents and copyrights related to products and services.

Founded in 1921 and incorporated in North Carolina in 1952, Lowe's has been publicly held since 1961. The company competes with national and regional home improvement chains, traditional hardware retailers, online retailers, general merchandise retailers, and specialty service providers across a highly fragmented home improvement market influenced by housing prices, demographic trends, construction activity, and consumer spending patterns.

Fund ownership counts N-PORT filers only, so it is a floor rather than a census — pensions, insurers and direct holders are not visible here, and the remainder is not “held by individuals”.

Fund ownership is a subset of institutional 13F ownership — the two describe overlapping populations and must not be added together.
