The business

Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUX) is North America's largest recycler and a leading manufacturer of steel and steel products. The company operates through three reportable segments: steel mills, which represented 62% of sales to external customers in 2025; steel products; and raw materials. Nucor's steel mills segment produces sheet steel, plate steel, structural steel, and bar steel, primarily using electric arc furnaces that melt recycled scrap steel as the primary raw material. In 2025, the company recycled approximately 20 million gross tons of scrap steel and shipped approximately 19.8 million tons from its steel mills segment.

The steel products segment manufactures steel joists, joist girders, steel deck, hollow structural section tubing, electrical conduit, fabricated reinforcing steel, cold finished steel, fasteners, grating, metal building systems, insulated metal panels, steel racking systems, overhead doors, and utility towers and structures. The raw materials segment produces direct reduced iron, brokers ferrous and non-ferrous metals through The David J. Joseph Company, supplies ferro-alloys, processes scrap metal, operates natural gas production wells, and provides industrial gas services through Universal Industrial Gases.

Nucor maintains a nationwide footprint with multiple manufacturing facilities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The company serves diverse end-use markets including nonresidential construction, durable goods, automotive, infrastructure, and renewable energy sectors. Notable branded product lines include AEOS high-strength, low-alloy steel beams, ECONIQ net-zero carbon steel, and ELCYON sustainable heavy gauge steel plate. Recent strategic acquisitions have expanded capabilities in data center infrastructure, overhead doors, and insulated metal panels, supporting the company's strategy to grow its core business while expanding into higher-margin, value-added products.

Nucor's competitive advantages include its efficient EAF-based steelmaking process with lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to blast furnace competitors, extensive recycling and raw materials infrastructure, nationwide distribution network, and established market leadership in numerous product categories. Fund ownership counts N-PORT filers only, so it is a floor rather than a census — pensions, insurers and direct holders are not visible here, and the remainder is not “held by individuals”.

Fund ownership is a subset of institutional 13F ownership — the two describe overlapping populations and must not be added together.
