The business

Weyerhaeuser Company (NYSE: WY) is one of the world's largest private owners of timberlands and a major manufacturer of wood products in North America. The company operates as a real estate investment trust, qualifying under the Internal Revenue Code to distribute REIT income to shareholders without corporate-level taxation. Weyerhaeuser owns or controls more than 10 million acres of timberlands across the United States and manages long-term licenses covering more than 14 million acres in Canada. The company website is www.weyerhaeuser.com.

The company operates three primary business segments. The Timberlands segment manages sustainably harvested forests across 17 U.S. states and Canadian provinces, selling logs to both internal and external customers while generating revenue from timber sales, stumpage agreements, and recreational leases. The Real Estate, Energy and Natural Resources segment identifies higher-value uses for timberland properties and monetizes surface and subsurface assets, including through a Climate Solutions business focused on emerging carbon and renewable energy markets. The Wood Products segment manufactures and distributes structural lumber, oriented strand board, engineered wood products, and specialty items through 33 manufacturing facilities in the United States and Canada, primarily serving residential, multi-family, repair and remodel, industrial, and light commercial markets.

As of 2025, Weyerhaeuser employed 9,517 people, including 8,198 in the United States, 1,310 in Canada, and 9 in Japan. The company maintains a strong commitment to sustainable forestry practices, with 100 percent of its timberlands certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Forest Management Standard. The company removes substantially more carbon from the atmosphere than it emits annually, with forests containing between 2.3 billion and 3.6 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. Weyerhaeuser plants more than 100 million tree seedlings annually and harvests only approximately 2 percent of its forests each year while maintaining comprehensive reforestation practices. The company has established science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative, committing to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42 percent and scope 3 emissions by 25 percent per ton of production by 2030.

Fund ownership counts N-PORT filers only, so it is a floor rather than a census — pensions, insurers and direct holders are not visible here, and the remainder is not “held by individuals”.

Fund ownership is a subset of institutional 13F ownership — the two describe overlapping populations and must not be added together.
