The business

Target Corporation (NYSE: TGT) operates as a general merchandise retailer serving customers through an integrated omnichannel platform combining physical stores and digital channels. The company's corporate website is located at corporate.target.com. Target's business model centers on offering fashionable, differentiated merchandise and everyday essentials at discounted prices, with a strategic focus on design-led assortments that emphasize quality, newness, and value across multiple product categories.

The company operates as a single reportable segment and generates the vast majority of net sales through merchandise sales, with additional revenue derived from advertising services through its Roundel retail media network, credit card profit-sharing income related to its Target Circle Card program, and its Target Plus third-party digital marketplace. Merchandise sales are fulfilled primarily through stores, which have fulfilled more than ninety-seven percent of total merchandise sales in recent years, positioning stores as critical fulfillment hubs that provide convenience to customers at reduced costs.

Target's merchandise assortment spans six core categories and includes both national brand products and owned and exclusive brands, which represent approximately thirty percent of merchandise sales. Notable owned brands include Cat & Jack, Good & Gather, Hearth & Hand with Magnolia, and Threshold, among many others. The company also operates shop-in-shop experiences and generates occupancy income through partnerships with retailers including Apple, Ulta Beauty, and Starbucks, as well as through a perpetual operating agreement with CVS Pharmacy.

As of January 31, 2026, Target employed approximately 415,000 full-time, part-time, and seasonal team members, making it one of the largest private employers in the United States. The company maintains global sourcing operations across thirteen countries, with approximately half of its merchandise sourced from outside the United States, with China representing the largest country of origin for imported goods. Nearly all sales are generated within the United States, where the vast majority of the company's property and equipment is located. Target has maintained its commitment to community investment since 1946, contributing five percent of its profit to communities.

Fund ownership counts N-PORT filers only, so it is a floor rather than a census — pensions, insurers and direct holders are not visible here, and the remainder is not “held by individuals”.

Fund ownership is a subset of institutional 13F ownership — the two describe overlapping populations and must not be added together.
