The fund invests in a combination of underlying Fidelity index funds tracking U.S. equities, international equities, bonds, and short-term instruments, with asset allocations that shift over time along a glide path toward a more conservative mix similar to the Fidelity Freedom Index Retirement Fund, approximately 15 to 20 years after 2045. The fund may also use futures contracts to manage cash flows and maintain full investment. Because the fund's allocations adjust according to a predetermined glide path rather than active security selection, the fund's returns will track the performance of its underlying index funds and their target indexes.
