The Group Retirement segment, contributing 20% of operating income, serves tax-exempt and public sector organizations through defined contribution plans, recordkeeping platforms, and advisory services across all 50 states. The Life Insurance segment, accounting for 12% of operating income, develops and distributes term life, index universal life, and whole life insurance products. The Institutional Markets segment comprises the remaining 16% of operating income.
Corebridge's business model balances three income sources: spread income of $3.9 billion, fee income of $1.2 billion, and underwriting margin of $1.4 billion for 2025, representing 60%, 18%, and 22% of total income respectively. The company maintains strategic partnerships with Blackstone and BlackRock to access diverse asset classes and leverage market-leading investment capabilities. Corebridge operates through a broad distribution platform including employee financial advisors, direct-to-consumer channels, and relationships with financial professionals and plan sponsors.
The company was separated from American International Group, Inc. and completed its initial public offering in 2021. Subsequently, Corebridge divested its international operations, including the sale of Laya Healthcare Limited to AXA S.A. in October 2023 and AIG Life Limited to Aviva plc in April 2024, to focus on its core U.S. life and retirement businesses.
