The business

AbbVie Inc. (NYSE: ABBV) is a global, diversified research-based biopharmaceutical company headquartered in the United States. The company was incorporated in Delaware on April 10, 2012, and became an independent, publicly-traded entity on January 1, 2013, following its distribution by Abbott Laboratories to Abbott's shareholders. AbbVie operates as a single global business segment dedicated to the research and development, manufacturing, commercialization and sale of innovative medicines and therapies. The company website is www.abbvie.com.

AbbVie maintains a comprehensive product portfolio with leadership positions across four primary therapeutic areas: immunology, neuroscience, oncology, and aesthetics. The immunology portfolio includes blockbuster products such as Skyrizi, a selective IL-23 inhibitor approved for plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, Crohn's disease, and ulcerative colitis; Rinvoq, an oral JAK inhibitor for rheumatoid arthritis and multiple inflammatory conditions; and Humira, a TNF-blocking biologic therapy. The neuroscience division offers Vraylar for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, Botox Therapeutic for chronic migraine and overactive bladder, and migraine prevention treatments Ubrelvy and Qulipta. The oncology portfolio includes Imbruvica for blood cancers, Venclexta for leukemia and lymphoma, and Elahere for ovarian cancer. AbbVie's aesthetics segment features market-leading products including Botox Cosmetic, the Juvederm Collection of dermal fillers, and CoolSculpting body contouring technology. The company also markets eye care products, hepatitis C treatments, and other specialized therapies.

AbbVie distributes its products globally through a combination of dedicated commercial resources, regional teams, and distributorships. In the United States, three major wholesale distributors handle substantially all pharmaceutical product sales. The company operates integrated discovery and development teams comprising chemists, biologists, physicians, and pharmacologists, and supplements internal research efforts through partnerships with biotechnology companies, academic institutions, and strategic acquisitions. AbbVie's intellectual property portfolio includes thousands of patent families, with key patents covering risankizumab and upadacitinib expected to expire in 2033, providing substantial competitive protection for core products.

Fund ownership counts N-PORT filers only, so it is a floor rather than a census — pensions, insurers and direct holders are not visible here, and the remainder is not “held by individuals”.

Fund ownership is a subset of institutional 13F ownership — the two describe overlapping populations and must not be added together.
