Medline Inc. (Nasdaq: MEDL) is the largest provider of medical-surgical products and supply chain solutions serving all points of care, based on total net sales of med-surg products. Founded in 1966, the company delivers mission-critical products used daily across the full range of care settings, from hospitals and surgery centers to physician offices and post-acute facilities. Medline operates through two reportable segments: Medline Brand and Supply Chain Solutions. The Medline Brand segment offers approximately 190,000 med-surg products organized into three categories: Front Line Care, which includes wound care, exam gloves, skin care, incontinence products, and infection control supplies; Surgical Solutions, encompassing operating room products, surgical procedure trays, personal protective equipment, and orthopedic implants; and Laboratory and Diagnostics, providing point-of-care testing, analyzers, and diagnostic consumables. The Supply Chain Solutions segment distributes approximately 145,000 products from over 1,300 third-party suppliers, including leading national brands, while also providing supply chain optimization services such as consulting, outsourced warehouse management, and logistics solutions.
The company's differentiated business model centers on its Prime Vendor relationships, which are multi-year distribution agreements whereby customers consolidate their med-surg purchasing with Medline. This model has achieved a greater than 98% average Prime Vendor retention rate over the past five years. Medline operates a network of 70 global distribution centers, warehouses, and transship facilities, with 45 located in the United States, enabling next-day delivery to 95% of the U.S. customer base. The company operates its own fleet of more than 2,100 MedTrans trucks and employs over 45,000 employees worldwide, with more than 26,000 in the United States.
Medline manufactures approximately one-third of its Medline Brand products through 30 manufacturing facilities, primarily in North America, while sourcing the remaining two-thirds from a network of more than 600 global partners across approximately 40 countries. The company holds more than 2,300 granted patents and maintains notable brands including Medline, Curad, Microtek, Hudson, and Proxima. Medline's commercial platform includes approximately 4,000 U.S. sales and support personnel dedicated to driving efficiencies across all points of care.
