The company operates through two primary reportable segments: Semiconductor Systems, which represents the largest revenue contributor, and Applied Global Services (AGS). The Semiconductor Systems segment designs, develops, manufactures and sells a comprehensive portfolio of equipment used throughout the chip fabrication process, including patterning systems, transistor and interconnect products, process control systems employing optical and eBeam technologies, and advanced packaging systems for heterogeneous integration. These products address the full spectrum of semiconductor manufacturing from leading-edge technology nodes at seven nanometers and smaller to non-leading-edge applications serving markets such as internet of things, communications, automotive and sensors. The AGS segment provides services, spares and factory automation software to optimize performance of the company's installed base globally, along with manufacturing and sale of 200-millimeter equipment for non-leading-edge markets.
Applied Materials serves customers across foundry, logic, dynamic random access memory and flash memory markets. The company's customer base is geographically concentrated, with approximately 89 percent of fiscal 2025 net revenue derived from customers in regions outside the United States, particularly in China, Taiwan and Korea. During fiscal 2025, two customers accounted for approximately 19 percent and 15 percent of net revenue respectively.
As of October 26, 2025, the company employed approximately 36,500 regular full-time employees spanning 25 countries, with approximately 46 percent in the Asia-Pacific region, 42 percent in North America and 12 percent in Europe and the Middle East. The company maintains a distributed manufacturing model with operations in the United States, Singapore, Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Israel and other countries across Asia and Europe.
Applied Materials holds more than 23,500 active patents in the United States and other countries, representing a significant competitive advantage in its highly technical markets. The company was incorporated in 1967 as a Delaware corporation.
