The business

Southern Copper Corporation (NASDAQ: SCCO; Lima Stock Exchange: SCCO) operates as one of the world's largest integrated copper producers, with comprehensive operations spanning mining, smelting, and refining across Peru and Mexico. The company maintains its website at www.southerncoppercorp.com.

The company's primary products include copper, molybdenum, zinc, and silver, with copper serving as the cornerstone of its business. Southern Copper holds what it believes to be the world's largest copper reserves. The company's operations are organized into three reportable segments: Peruvian operations, Mexican open-pit operations, and Mexican underground mining operations through its IMMSA unit. The Peruvian segment encompasses the Toquepala and Cuajone mine complexes along with smelting and refining facilities in Ilo. Mexican operations include the La Caridad and Buenavista open-pit mines with associated processing plants, as well as five underground mines operated by IMMSA that produce zinc, lead, copper, silver, and gold.

Southern Copper employs approximately 16,617 employees as of December 31, 2025, with roughly 64.4 percent covered by collective labor agreements across sixteen bargaining agreements with ten different unions. The company maintains significant vertical integration, managing the entire production process from ore mining through refined copper rod production, along with most associated transport and logistics functions. Approximately 12,400 contractors support operations, and over 70 percent of the workforce is hired locally.

The company was incorporated in Delaware in 1952 and commenced copper mining operations in 1960. Since 1996, its common stock has traded on both the New York and Lima Stock Exchanges. Southern Copper is a majority-owned indirect subsidiary of Grupo Mexico S.A.B. de C.V., which owns 88.9 percent of the company's capital stock through its subsidiary Americas Mining Corporation.

The company's business model emphasizes long-term customer relationships, with approximately 80 to 90 percent of metal production sold under annual or longer-term contracts. Copper prices are primarily determined by COMEX and LME exchanges, while molybdenum prices reference Platt's Metals Week. The company maintains exploration activities in Peru, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile, with mining concessions totaling 164,805 hectares in Peru and 505,788 hectares in Mexico.

Fund ownership counts N-PORT filers only, so it is a floor rather than a census — pensions, insurers and direct holders are not visible here, and the remainder is not “held by individuals”.

Fund ownership is a subset of institutional 13F ownership — the two describe overlapping populations and must not be added together.
