AES Corporation (NYSE: AES) is a global energy company focused on accelerating the future of energy through the development, operation, and ownership of electric generation and utility assets. The company operates across four strategic business units organized by technology: Renewables, Utilities, Energy Infrastructure, and New Energy Technologies. AES serves approximately 2.7 million customers globally and operates a generation portfolio of 34,740 megawatts.
The Renewables segment represents the company's primary growth engine, with 17,836 megawatts of operating capacity across solar, wind, hydroelectric, and energy storage facilities in ten countries. AES Clean Energy, the company's U.S. renewables platform, operates 10,961 megawatts with an additional 3,031 megawatts under construction and maintains a 7.6 gigawatt backlog of contracted projects. The segment is positioned as a leading provider of renewable energy to data center companies and large mining operations, with a development pipeline of 46 gigawatts.
The Utilities segment operates regulated utility businesses in the United States and El Salvador. AES Indiana functions as a fully integrated regulated utility generating, transmitting, and distributing electricity, while AES Ohio operates as a transmission and distribution utility. These U.S. utilities represent two of the fastest-growing utilities in the country with projected double-digit rate base growth through 2027. The company's four El Salvador utilities face limited competition due to significant market barriers.
The Energy Infrastructure segment owns and operates natural gas, liquefied natural gas, coal, petroleum coke, diesel, and oil generation facilities. The New Energy Technologies segment includes investments in Fluence Energy and other innovative energy technology businesses.
Approximately 54 percent of the company's generation capacity is fueled by renewables with no significant fuel costs, while 29 percent utilizes natural gas, 15 percent coal, and 2 percent petroleum coke or oil. The company's business model emphasizes long-term power purchase agreements to reduce exposure to commodity price volatility and secure stable cash flows. AES maintains a website at www.aes.com and operates facilities across multiple continents, positioning itself as a diversified global energy infrastructure company.
