MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDB) is a developer data platform company that provides modern database software and integrated data services designed to address the evolving needs of contemporary application development. The company's flagship product is MongoDB, a document-based database built to handle unstructured data while maintaining the strengths of relational databases. MongoDB's architecture enables developers to build, modernize, deploy and maintain applications more rapidly and intuitively than legacy relational database alternatives, which were designed decades ago before cloud computing and modern application requirements emerged.
The company operates through two primary product offerings. Atlas, the managed multi-cloud database-as-a-service offering, represented 73 percent of total revenue and provides customers with fully managed infrastructure across more than 130 regions worldwide on Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure. MongoDB Enterprise Advanced, the self-managed commercial offering for enterprise customers, represented 20 percent of revenue and can run in the cloud, on-premises or in hybrid environments. Professional services, including consulting and training, comprised 3 percent of revenue.
MongoDB's developer data platform extends beyond its core database to include complementary capabilities such as Atlas Search, Atlas Vector Search for AI applications, time series support, stream processing, queryable encryption and application-driven analytics. In February 2025, the company acquired Voyage AI Innovations, Inc., a pioneer in embedding and reranking models that enhance AI application accuracy and reduce hallucinations.
As of January 31, 2026, MongoDB served over 65,200 customers across more than 100 countries with a workforce of 5,636 employees, including 2,927 located outside the United States. The company has cultivated a substantial developer community, with Community Server downloaded over 700 million times and more than 3.0 million MongoDB University registrations. International revenue represented 46 percent of total revenue. MongoDB competes in the database management software market, which represents one of the largest segments in the software industry, competing primarily against established legacy providers including IBM, Microsoft and Oracle as well as public cloud providers.
