The segment's primary business lines include aviation services with approximately 4,580 commercial aircraft and 2,100 business jets equipped with in-flight connectivity systems, government satcom offerings, maritime services supporting approximately 13,200 vessels, and fixed broadband services with approximately 130,000 U.S. subscribers. The company completed the acquisition of Inmarsat in May 2023, significantly expanding its satellite fleet and global coverage capabilities.
The defense and advanced technologies segment develops resilient, vertically integrated solutions for government and commercial customers, leveraging core competencies in encryption, cybersecurity, tactical gateways, modems and waveforms. This segment includes information security and cyber defense products, space and mission systems, tactical networking solutions, and advanced technologies offerings. Total new awards in this segment grew to approximately $1.6 billion in fiscal year 2026.
Viasat maintains a diversified customer base including the U.S. Government, which represented approximately 16 percent of total revenues in fiscal year 2026, leading aerospace and defense contractors, foreign governments, commercial airlines, and enterprises requiring complex communications solutions. The company employs approximately 3,400 engineers globally and maintains a vertically integrated platform spanning satellites, ground infrastructure, and user terminals.
