The business

Eversource Energy (NYSE: ES) is a public utility holding company headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts and Hartford, Connecticut, engaged primarily in energy delivery through wholly-owned utility subsidiaries serving the northeastern United States. The company operates through four reportable segments: electric distribution, electric transmission, natural gas distribution, and water distribution.

The electric distribution segment consists of three regulated electric utilities: The Connecticut Light and Power Company serving approximately 1.32 million customers across 157 Connecticut municipalities, NSTAR Electric Company serving approximately 1.62 million customers in 159 Massachusetts communities, and Public Service Company of New Hampshire serving approximately 549,000 customers across 206 New Hampshire municipalities. These utilities purchase and deliver electricity to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. NSTAR Electric also owns and operates 70 megawatts of solar power facilities across 22 Massachusetts sites. The electric transmission segment encompasses transmission facilities owned and maintained by all three electric utilities as part of the interstate New England power grid, with a combined transmission rate base of approximately 11.3 billion dollars.

The natural gas distribution segment includes three regulated utilities: NSTAR Gas serving approximately 306,000 customers in 59 Massachusetts communities, Eversource Gas Company of Massachusetts serving approximately 335,000 customers in 66 Massachusetts communities, and Yankee Gas Services Company serving approximately 256,000 customers across 85 Connecticut municipalities. These utilities distribute natural gas to residential, commercial, and industrial customers, with combined throughput of approximately 188 billion cubic feet in 2025.

The water distribution segment comprises Aquarion Company and its five regulated water utility subsidiaries serving residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal customers across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Eversource also maintains liquefied natural gas storage and vaporization facilities supporting winter heating season supply for its gas utilities. The company's website is investors.eversource.com. In 2024, Eversource divested its interests in offshore wind projects including Revolution Wind, South Fork Wind, and Sunrise Wind, retaining only a noncontrolling tax equity investment in South Fork Wind.
