The company operates through its website at https://www.armstrong.com and serves commercial construction, residential construction, and related markets across the United States, Canada, and Latin America.
The company operates three reportable segments: Mineral Fiber, Architectural Specialties, and Unallocated Corporate. The Mineral Fiber segment produces suspended mineral fiber and fiberglass ceiling systems with various performance attributes including acoustical control, fire protection, and energy efficiency. This segment also includes results from Worthington Armstrong Venture (WAVE), a 50-50 joint venture with Worthington Enterprises that manufactures ceiling suspension systems and grid products. The Architectural Specialties segment designs and produces specialty ceilings, walls, and exterior architectural applications using materials such as metal, felt, architectural resin, glass, wood, and glass-reinforced gypsum. Approximately 63 percent of consolidated net sales are to building materials distributors, with home center customers accounting for nearly 7 percent of sales.
Armstrong manufactures products from numerous materials including mineral fiber, fiberglass, metal, felt, architectural resin, glass, wood, and wood fiber. The company holds a broad collection of intellectual property rights including important trademarks such as Armstrong, 3form, Arktura, Sustain, Templok, Total Acoustics, and Zahner. As of December 31, 2025, the company employed approximately 3,800 full-time and part-time employees, with approximately 54 percent of its 1,700 U.S. production employees represented by labor unions.
The company has pursued strategic acquisitions to expand its Architectural Specialties segment, completing nine acquisitions from July 2020 through December 2025, including Zahner, 3form, Geometrik, and Parallel. Armstrong also maintains a strategic equity investment in Overcast Innovations, a solutions company offering prefabricated ceiling systems and modular platforms. The company competes against domestic and international manufacturers including CertainTeed, Chicago Metallic, Rockfon, and USG Corporation, with competition based on product performance, styling, service, and price.
