What Adeia Inc. does
In the company’s own words
Adeia Inc. (NASDAQ: ADEIA) is a technology company and innovation incubator focused on intellectual property licensing in the media and semiconductor industries. The company maintains its corporate website at www.adeia.com and operates with approximately 150 full-time employees, substantially all located in the United States.
The company derives its revenue primarily through licensing its extensive patent portfolios to leading media, entertainment, consumer electronics, and semiconductor companies worldwide. Adeia's business is organized around two primary strategic segments: media and semiconductors. The media portfolio encompasses fundamental innovations across the entertainment experience, including guidance, discovery, search, recommendations, multi-screen capabilities, personalization, data analytics, advertising, computer vision, content storage, and high-performance computing. The semiconductor portfolio focuses on emerging technologies including hybrid bonding, thermal solutions such as RapidCool technology, microLEDs, and advanced processing nodes that address demands for higher bandwidth, improved compute performance, and cost management in heterogeneous integration.
As of December 31, 2025, Adeia held approximately 13,750 patent and patent application assets worldwide, comprising roughly 6,250 United States issued patents and 1,950 patent applications, along with approximately 4,100 foreign issued patents and 1,450 patent applications. The company's internal innovation engine accounts for approximately eighty percent of its combined patent portfolio.
Adeia's customer base includes major multichannel video programming distributors, over-the-top video service providers, consumer electronics manufacturers, social media companies, and semiconductor manufacturers. For the year ended December 31, 2025, five customers represented 55.7 percent of aggregate revenue. The company licenses its innovations through various fee structures, including monthly per-subscriber fees, fixed fees for specified periods, per-unit fees, and production-based fees.
The company was created through the October 2022 separation of Xperi Holding Corporation's IP licensing business, which was renamed Adeia Inc., while the product business became an independent company named Xperi Inc. This separation allowed Adeia to focus exclusively on intellectual property licensing and innovation development across its target markets.
