In the company’s own words
Alamo Group Inc. (NASDAQ: ALG) is a leading manufacturer and seller of high-quality, purpose-built industrial and vegetation management equipment serving infrastructure, construction, public works, agriculture, and tree care markets. The company operates through two primary divisions: the Vegetation Management Division and the Industrial Equipment Division, which provide a balanced platform for organic growth and strategic acquisitions.
The Vegetation Management Division manufactures tractor-mounted mowing equipment, land maintenance machinery, and recycling equipment under brands including Bush Hog, Rhino, Dixie Chopper, McConnel, Bomford, Morbark, Rayco, and Timberwolf. The Industrial Equipment Division produces vocational products such as vacuum trucks, street sweepers, roadside safety equipment, excavators, and snow removal equipment under brands including Gradall, VacAll, Super Products, Schwarze, Tenco, Wausau, and Royal Truck & Equipment.
Founded in 1969, Alamo Group has grown substantially through geographic expansion, product development, and strategic acquisitions. The company operates 27 manufacturing facilities across North America, Canada, Europe, Brazil, and Australia, employing approximately 3,800 people. Products are distributed through independent equipment dealers and directly to contractors and municipalities worldwide.
Replacement parts represent a significant revenue stream, accounting for approximately 16 percent of total sales. The company derives substantial revenue from governmental markets in the United States and maintains leading positions in agricultural markets and European niche segments. Alamo Group manufactures many component parts internally while sourcing specialized items including drivelines, gearboxes, engines, and hydraulic components from external suppliers meeting company specifications.
The company's competitive advantages include effective manufacturing cost management, high-quality product offerings, innovative product design, and strategic market positioning that avoids direct competition with significantly larger competitors. Research and development activities support continuous product improvement and new product development, with approximately 233 engineering personnel dedicated to these efforts.
