In the company’s own words
Ampco-Pittsburgh Corporation (NYSE: AP) is a manufacturer of highly engineered, high-performance specialty metal products and customized equipment serving industrial customers worldwide. The company operates through two primary business segments: Forged and Cast Engineered Products (FCEP) and Air and Liquid Processing (ALP).
The FCEP segment produces forged hardened steel rolls, cast rolls, and forged engineered products primarily used in hot and cold rolling mills by steel, aluminum, and other metal producers. These rolls serve customers in steel distribution, oil and gas, and aluminum and plastic extrusion industries. The segment maintains operations in the United States, Sweden, and Slovenia, along with equity interests in two joint venture companies in China. Union Electric Steel Corporation, headquartered in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, operates three manufacturing facilities in Pennsylvania and one in Indiana for this segment.
The ALP segment encompasses three divisions of Air & Liquid Systems Corporation: Aerofin, which produces custom-engineered finned tube heat exchange coils for power generation and industrial applications; Buffalo Air Handling, which manufactures large custom-designed air handling systems for institutional and industrial markets; and Buffalo Pumps, which manufactures centrifugal pumps for fossil-fueled power generation, marine defense, and industrial refrigeration industries. The ALP segment operates facilities in Virginia and New York.
As of December 31, 2025, the company employed 1,432 active full-time employees worldwide, with approximately 62 percent employed in the United States. Approximately 24 percent of employees are covered by collective bargaining agreements. The company maintains a global sales and distribution network with offices throughout the world.
The company's products are custom-engineered and sold to sophisticated commercial and industrial users globally, with products delivered through third-party carriers or customer-arranged transportation. Competition in both segments is based on quality, service, price, and delivery, with significant barriers to entry protecting the company's niche market positions.
