What ARDELYX, INC. does
In the company’s own words
Ardelyx, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARDX) is a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing innovative medicines addressing significant unmet medical needs. The company's website is www.ardelyx.com.
Ardelyx's commercial portfolio centers on tenapanor, a first-in-class sodium/hydrogen exchanger (NHE3) inhibitor discovered and developed by the company. Tenapanor is a minimally absorbed, oral, small molecule therapy that acts locally in the gastrointestinal tract. The company markets two branded formulations of this active ingredient: IBSRELA for treating irritable bowel syndrome with constipation in adults, and XPHOZAH for reducing serum phosphorus in adults with chronic kidney disease on dialysis.
IBSRELA was approved by the FDA for IBS-C treatment and launched commercially in March 2022. The company targets the approximately thirteen million Americans suffering from IBS-C symptoms. Ardelyx is expanding IBSRELA's addressable market by pursuing a label extension for chronic idiopathic constipation, with a Phase 3 clinical trial initiated in January 2026.
XPHOZAH received FDA approval in October 2023 and launched commercially in December 2023. The product targets the more than 550,000 adult dialysis patients in the United States, with approximately eighty percent receiving phosphate-lowering therapies. On January 1, 2025, XPHOZAH became part of the ESRD Prospective Payment System, eliminating Medicare Part D coverage and materially impacting revenue growth.
Beyond its commercial products, Ardelyx is developing RDX10531, a next-generation NHE3 inhibitor with potential applications across multiple therapeutic areas, with an IND submission targeted for the second half of 2026.
The company has established collaboration agreements with international partners including Knight for Canada, Kyowa Kirin for Japan, and Fosun Pharma for China, generating upfront payments, development milestones, royalties, and commercialization milestone revenues. Ardelyx relies on third-party contract manufacturing organizations for both active pharmaceutical ingredients and finished drug products. As of December 31, 2025, the company maintained cash, cash equivalents, and short-term investments totaling $264.7 million and had $200 million outstanding under its loan and security agreement with SLR.
