Aspen Aerogels, Inc. (ASPN) is an aerogel technology company that designs, develops, and manufactures high-performance aerogel materials for the energy industrial, sustainable insulation materials, and electric vehicle markets. The company operates through two reportable segments: Thermal Barrier and Energy Industrial.
The Thermal Barrier segment focuses on proprietary PyroThin aerogel thermal barriers designed for use in lithium-ion battery packs in electric vehicles and energy storage systems. These ultra-thin, lightweight, and flexible thermal barriers are engineered to impede thermal runaway propagation across multiple battery architectures while maintaining energy density. Aspen has entered into multi-year production contracts with leading automotive original equipment manufacturers including General Motors, Toyota, Scania, Automotive Cells Company, Audi, Volvo Truck, and others. The Thermal Barrier segment generated approximately 62% of total revenue in 2025.
The Energy Industrial segment manufactures aerogel insulation products including Pyrogel XTE, Pyrogel HPS, Pyrogel XTF, Cryogel Z, and Spaceloft Subsea for use in refineries, petrochemical plants, liquefied natural gas facilities, power generation assets, and other industrial applications. These products deliver superior thermal performance compared to traditional insulation materials while reducing corrosion risk and installation costs. The company has sold over 1.6 billion dollars of insulation products globally since 2008, representing an installed base exceeding 525 million square feet.
Aspen operates its primary manufacturing facility in East Providence, Rhode Island since 2008 and utilizes flexible supply strategies including external manufacturing capabilities in China and Mexico. The company maintains a global sales network across North America, Europe, and Asia, supported by a network of distributors and contractors in more than 50 countries. As of December 31, 2025, the company employed 854 full-time employees. Total revenue for 2025 was 271.1 million dollars.
