The company operates through two primary reportable segments: Sample Management Solutions and Multiomics. More information about the company is available at www.azenta.com.
The Sample Management Solutions segment offers end-to-end sample management products and services, including Sample Repository Services and Core Products such as automated stores, cryogenic systems, automated sample tubes, consumables, instruments, and controlled rate thawing devices. These solutions provide customers with complete cold chain of custody capabilities, sample quality assurance, security, and integrity throughout the lifecycle of biological samples. The Multiomics segment provides genomic services including gene sequencing, gene synthesis, and related analytical services that support research and development activities in drug discovery, personalized medicine, and cell and gene therapy applications.
Azenta employs approximately 3,000 full-time employees, part-time employees, and contingent workers worldwide and maintains operations across North America, Asia, and Europe. The company serves approximately 14,000 customers globally, including top pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, advanced research hospitals, academic institutions, government research organizations, and emerging biotech startups. During fiscal year 2025, approximately 39 percent of revenue was derived from sales outside North America, with significant operations in China, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and other international markets.
The company operates 14 genomic services laboratories globally and maintains manufacturing facilities in Missouri and the United Kingdom, along with sample management storage and transportation services in multiple locations including Massachusetts, Indiana, California, Ohio, Germany, Canada, Singapore, and China. Azenta entered the life sciences market in 2011 by leveraging precision automation and cryogenics capabilities originally developed for semiconductor manufacturing. The company divested its semiconductor business in February 2022 for $2.9 billion in cash and subsequently changed its corporate name from Brooks Automation, Inc. to Azenta, Inc. in December 2021. The company also announced plans to divest its B Medical Systems business, a medical refrigeration manufacturer, to focus on core Sample Management Solutions and Multiomics operations.
