Blue Bird Corporation (NASDAQ: BLBD) is the leading independent designer and manufacturer of school buses in North America, with more than 619,000 buses sold since its formation in 1927. The company operates through two reportable segments: the Bus segment, which designs, engineers, manufactures and sells school buses and extended warranties, and the Parts segment, which sells replacement bus parts representing approximately seven percent of company net sales.
The company manufactures three types of buses: Type C school buses, Type D school buses, and specialty buses, all produced at its integrated facility in Fort Valley, Georgia. Blue Bird also produces the Micro Bird Type A bus through an unconsolidated Canadian joint venture with Girardin Minibus. In fiscal 2025, the company sold 9,409 buses worldwide, with Type C buses accounting for eighty-two percent of unit sales and Type D buses representing fourteen percent. The company maintains approximately 1,640 employees supporting customized assembly operations across 900,000 square feet of integrated chassis manufacturing and body assembly facilities, plus an additional 340,000 square foot component fabrication facility.
Blue Bird distributes its products through an extensive network of 44 exclusive dealer locations across the United States and Canada, with approximately ninety-three percent of buses sold through this dealer network in fiscal 2025. The company also sells directly to large fleet operators, the U.S. government through its GSA contract, state governments, and authorized dealers in select foreign markets.
The company has established itself as the clear market leader in alternative powered school buses, having sold approximately sixty-four percent of all alternative powered buses from fiscal 2015 through fiscal 2025.
