The company has evolved significantly over its 112-year history, undergoing a fundamental transformation after 2001 when it expanded into critical national security missions. In 2008, Booz Allen made a strategic decision to prioritize government and national security interests by spinning off its global commercial business. Beginning in 2013, the company initiated another major transformation by investing heavily in emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, cyber, quantum, and advanced defense technologies to help transform government operations.

Booz Allen's core technology capabilities span cyber defense, defense technology products, and digital modernization solutions. The company serves as the federal government's largest AI provider with approximately 400 active AI projects and operates one of the most impactful cyber businesses globally. Its proprietary technologies include Vellox, an AI-native cyber product suite, and defense tech products such as Sit(x)R and EdgeExtend. The company maintains strategic partnerships with leading technology companies including AWS and venture capital firms like Andreessen Horowitz, as well as investments in emerging defense technology companies.

As of March 31, 2026, Booz Allen employed approximately 31,500 people across the United States and select global regions, including 28,800 customer staff. The company operates in 23 countries with 32 major business centers and more than 20 engineering, manufacturing, and research and development facilities. Approximately 87 percent of its workforce holds bachelor's degrees, 46 percent hold master's degrees, and 4 percent hold doctoral degrees. Nearly 30 percent of employees identify as veterans, and approximately 77 percent hold security clearances.

The company derives substantially all revenue from U.S. government contracts across defense, intelligence, and civil agencies. In fiscal 2026, Booz Allen delivered solutions under 5,026 contracts and task orders, with approximately 84 percent of revenue derived from 2,426 active task orders under indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract vehicles. The Department of Veterans Affairs was the single largest customer, representing 10 percent of revenue.
