CarMax, Inc. (NYSE: KMX) is a U.S. retailer of used vehicles that also buys vehicles from consumers and dealers, operates wholesale auctions and provides auto financing. Its omni-channel platform lets customers shop and transact online, in stores or through a combination of both, with no-haggle pricing. The company’s two reportable segments are CarMax Sales Operations, covering vehicle sales and purchases, auctions, related products and services, and financing arrangements, and CarMax Auto Finance (CAF), which finances retail vehicle buyers and services its loans. CarMax also offers extended service plans, guaranteed asset protection and vehicle repair services. Edmunds, acquired in 2021, adds online automotive information and digital vehicle-shopping capabilities. In fiscal 2026, CarMax sold 780,684 used vehicles at retail and 538,203 at wholesale auctions; at year-end, it operated 256 stores in 110 U.S. television markets and employed 27,796 full- and part-time associates.
