What DAXOR CORP does
In the company’s own words
Daxor Corporation (NYSE Amex: DAXO) operates as a medical device manufacturing company with biotechnology services, headquartered in New York. The company maintains its primary website at www.daxor.com and operates a subsidiary website at www.Idant.com for Scientific Medical Systems.
The company's core business centers on the BVA-100 Blood Volume Analyzer, a CLIA-rated instrument that measures human blood volume with 98% accuracy within 60 to 90 minutes. This device is used in conjunction with Volumex, a single-use radiopharmaceutical diagnostic injection and collection kit. The BVA-100 addresses a significant clinical need, as traditional methods of blood volume measurement have been complex and time-consuming. The technology enables diagnosis and treatment of patients with heart failure, kidney failure, hypertension, syncope, and supports fluid and blood transfusion management in critical care settings. The company obtained FDA marketing clearance for the BVA-100 in 1997 and for Volumex in 1998, and holds United States, European Common Market, and Japanese patents for the technology.
Daxor operates the Daxor Oak Ridge Operations facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, which manufactures, tests, and develops next-generation models of the BVA-100. The company manufactures its own injection kit components and specialized collection kits, with injection kit filling performed by an FDA-licensed radiopharmaceutical manufacturer.
The company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Scientific Medical Systems, provides cryobanking services for blood storage and operates Idant Laboratories, which offers semen banking services. These operations represent a legacy business dating to the company's original incorporation as Iatric Corporation in 1971 for cryobanking services.
Daxor targets the approximately 8,500 hospitals and radiology imaging centers in the United States, with an additional international market of 10,000 to 14,000 potential users. The company has supported extensive clinical research, resulting in nineteen original research articles and seven review articles published since 2002 demonstrating the clinical applications of blood volume measurement. Blood volume measurement is an approved test with six separate CPT codes, and reimbursement has been obtained from numerous insurance companies, including Medicare.
