The First Bancorp's principal subsidiary is First National Bank, which traces its origins to 1864 when it was chartered as a national bank. The company itself was incorporated in Maine in 1985 and adopted its current name in 2008. The Bank operates eighteen branch locations across its primary market area, including offices in Hancock, Washington, and Penobscot counties. In 2022, the company opened a de novo branch in Brewer, Maine, representing its second location in Penobscot County. The company previously expanded through the acquisition of FNB Bankshares in 2005 and the purchase of a branch from Bangor Savings Bank in 2020.
