What GENWORTH FINANCIAL INC does
In the company’s own words
Genworth Financial, Inc. (Nasdaq: ACT) operates as a diversified financial services company providing mortgage insurance, long-term care insurance, life insurance, annuities, and aging-care services. The company's website is www.genworth.com.
The company operates through two primary reportable segments: Enact and Closed Block. Enact, comprising Genworth Financial's majority-controlled subsidiary Enact Holdings, Inc., is a leading provider of private mortgage insurance in the United States. Enact writes and assumes residential mortgage guaranty insurance covering low down payment mortgages where loan amounts exceed eighty percent of home value, protecting lenders and investors against losses from nonpayment. Enact operates across all fifty states and the District of Columbia through its primary mortgage insurance subsidiary, Enact Mortgage Insurance Corporation, which is approved by government-sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The Closed Block segment manages legacy long-term care insurance, life insurance, and annuity products previously sold through Genworth Life Insurance Company and related subsidiaries. These products are no longer actively sold but continue to be serviced and managed.
Beyond its core insurance operations, Genworth Financial operates CareScout, a start-up business offering fee-based aging-care services and solutions. CareScout Services operates a quality network of home care providers and senior living communities, providing care planning, placement services, and assessments. CareScout Insurance launched an individual long-term care insurance product called Care Assurance in October 2025, featuring customizable coverage levels and access to the CareScout Quality Network.
Genworth Financial's competitive advantages include its established relationships with mortgage lenders, sophisticated risk-based pricing engines, and extensive underwriting expertise in the mortgage insurance sector. The company maintains financial strength ratings from major rating agencies and operates scalable service centers in Virginia and North Carolina, supplemented by outsourced operations in India and the Philippines. Enact's weighted average FICO score of in-force primary insurance was 746 as of December 31, 2025, reflecting a prime-based portfolio. The company pursues significant premium rate increases and benefit reductions on its long-term care insurance products to maintain self-sustaining legacy insurance operations while investing capital returns from Enact into growth initiatives and shareholder returns.
