The company owns five wholly owned subsidiary banks: International Bank of Commerce in Laredo, Commerce Bank in Laredo, International Bank of Commerce in Brownsville, International Bank of Commerce in Zapata, and International Bank of Commerce in Oklahoma City. These subsidiary banks collectively maintain 166 facilities and 247 ATMs serving 75 communities throughout their primary market areas.
International Bancshares' core business encompasses accepting checking and savings deposits and originating commercial, real estate, personal, home improvement, automobile, and other installment and term loans. The company emphasizes both commercial banking services to small- and medium-sized businesses and consumer and retail banking, including mortgage lending. The subsidiary banks maintain significant international banking operations, particularly along the United States-Mexico border, providing letters of credit, commercial and industrial loans, and foreign-exchange services. Deposits from persons and entities domiciled in Mexico comprise approximately 32 percent of the subsidiary banks' total deposit base, representing a large and stable funding source.
