As the only U.S. producer of muriate of potash, Intrepid extracts and processes potassium chloride from three solar evaporation solution mining facilities located in Carlsbad and Moab, Utah, and Wendover, Utah. The company also operates a conventional underground mine in Carlsbad, New Mexico, producing Trio®, a specialty fertilizer combining potassium, magnesium, and sulfur in a single particle. Additionally, Intrepid operates the North compaction facility in Carlsbad for product processing and maintains Intrepid South, a portfolio of land, water rights, and related assets in southeast New Mexico generating revenue from oilfield services.
In 2025, potash represented 39 percent of total sales, Trio® accounted for 48 percent, water contributed 1 percent, salt 4 percent, magnesium chloride 2 percent, brines 4 percent, and other products 2 percent. The company supplied approximately 0.5 percent of global annual potassium consumption and 4.0 percent of U.S. annual potassium consumption. Substantially all potash sales occur domestically, concentrated in central and western U.S. markets.
Intrepid operates with approximately 478 employees distributed across Denver, Moab, New Mexico, and Wendover locations. The company maintains estimated annual designed productive capacity of approximately 365,000 tons of potash and 400,000 tons of Trio®. Potash reserves support approximately 25 years of reserve life, while resource life ranges from 33 years to over 100 years across facilities.
The company's competitive advantages include its sole U.S. potash production status, favorable tax and royalty treatment compared to Canadian competitors, cost-efficient solar evaporation operations, significant mineral reserves, existing infrastructure enabling expansion, and geographic proximity to major consuming markets. Intrepid sells potash into agricultural, animal feed, and industrial markets through diversified customer bases including distributors, cooperatives, retailers, and direct end users. In 2025, no single customer represented more than 10 percent of consolidated revenues.
