What Kadant Inc. does

In the company’s own words

Kadant Inc. (NYSE: KAI) is a global supplier of technologies and engineered systems that drive Sustainable Industrial Processing, operating through three reportable segments: Flow Control, Industrial Processing, and Material Handling. The company serves process industries including paper, packaging, tissue, wood products, mining, metals, food processing, and recycling and waste management. Kadant's business model centers on enhancing efficiency, optimizing energy utilization, and maximizing productivity while helping customers advance sustainability initiatives.

The Flow Control segment provides custom-engineered products and systems that control fluid flow in industrial applications, encompassing fluid-handling systems such as rotary joints, syphons, and expansion joints, as well as doctoring, cleaning, and filtration systems for papermaking and continuous process equipment. The Industrial Processing segment manufactures equipment for recycling paper and paperboard, processing timber, and optimizing industrial steam boiler efficiency, including wood processing equipment like debarkers and stranders, and fiber processing systems for pulping and de-inking. The Material Handling segment produces conveying and vibratory equipment, baling systems, and biodegradable absorbent granules for aggregates, mining, food, and waste management industries.

The company maintains research and development facilities across the United States, Europe, and Canada. Approximately 50 percent of consolidated revenue derives from customers outside the United States, primarily in Europe, Asia, and Canada. Kadant maintains one of the largest installed bases of equipment in its served markets and competes primarily on technical expertise, product innovation, product performance, and customer service. The company pursues growth through acquisitions of complementary businesses and technologies, having completed acquisitions across all three segments in recent years. Notable brands include Link-Belt, a conveying equipment trademark licensed on a perpetual, royalty-free basis. More information is available at kadant.com.
