Founded in 1927 as Floral City Furniture and incorporated in Michigan in 1941, La-Z-Boy has built a recognized brand synonymous with comfort and quality in the furniture industry. The company manufactures, markets, imports, exports, distributes, and retails upholstery furniture products under the La-Z-Boy, England, and Joybird brand names, along with casegoods and accessories under the Hammary, Joybird, Kincaid, and American Drew trademarks.
The company operates through two reportable segments: Retail and Wholesale. The Retail segment sells upholstered furniture, casegoods, and home furnishing accessories to end consumers through company-owned La-Z-Boy Stores. The Wholesale segment manufactures and imports upholstered and casegoods furniture for sale to retailers, dealers, and other distribution channels. As of fiscal 2026, the company operated 378 La-Z-Boy Stores, over 500 La-Z-Boy Comfort Studio locations, and nearly 900 La-Z-Boy branded space locations across North America, with approximately 11 million square feet of proprietary floor space dedicated to La-Z-Boy branded products. The company also operates 15 small-format Joybird stores.
La-Z-Boy's supply chain includes four major manufacturing locations and nine distribution centers in the United States, three facilities in Mexico, operations in the United Kingdom and Thailand through joint ventures, and a global trading company in Hong Kong managing Asian suppliers. The company employed approximately 10,200 full-time equivalent employees at fiscal year-end 2026, with approximately 7,600 in the Wholesale segment, 1,850 in the Retail segment, and 450 in the Joybird business.
The company sells through multiple channels including company-owned retail stores, independently-owned La-Z-Boy Stores, furniture retailers and distributors across the United States, Canada, and approximately 45 other countries, and through e-commerce platforms at www.la-z-boy.com and www.joybird.com.
