What LIGHTPATH TECHNOLOGIES INC does
In the company’s own words
LightPath Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: LPTX) is a global photonics company specializing in infrared optical components, assemblies, modules, and imaging systems. The company operates through four primary product groups: infrared components, visible components, assemblies and modules, and engineering services. The company website is www.lightpath.com.
LightPath manufactures precision molded lenses, diamond-turned optics, and infrared optical elements using proprietary materials and advanced manufacturing techniques. The company's core technological differentiators include its exclusive BlackDiamond chalcogenide glass materials, precision glass molding technology, optical coating capabilities, and system-level imaging expertise. BlackDiamond materials serve as alternatives to germanium in infrared applications, offering supply chain security and unique technical advantages including multispectral performance and low thermo-optic coefficients.
The company operates manufacturing facilities totaling approximately 154,000 square feet across the United States and Latvia. Primary facilities include a 58,500 square-foot combined production facility in Orlando, Florida; a 27,000 square-foot facility in Hudson, New Hampshire; and a 29,000 square-foot facility in Riga, Latvia. In July 2026, the company announced a definitive agreement to divest its Chinese operations.
LightPath serves defense, public safety, industrial, commercial, telecom, and medical markets. The company's customer base includes defense prime contractors, system integrators, government agencies, and original equipment manufacturers. The company has transitioned from a pure component manufacturer to a solutions provider offering optical engineered solutions and imaging subsystems.
Recent acquisitions have expanded the company's capabilities and product portfolio. The July 2023 acquisition of Visimid added thermal imaging and night vision expertise. The February 2025 acquisition of G5 Infrared brought cooled infrared camera systems and advanced coating capabilities. The January 2026 acquisition of Amorphous Materials expanded infrared glass fabrication capabilities. These strategic acquisitions support the company's evolution toward higher-value imaging subsystems and systems, with average selling prices ranging from single dollars for components to tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars for complete systems.
