What LSB INDUSTRIES, INC. does
In the company’s own words
LSB Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: LXU) operates as a chemical manufacturer committed to producing low and no carbon products that build, feed and power the world. The company manufactures ammonia and ammonia-related products at facilities located in El Dorado, Arkansas; Cherokee, Alabama; and Pryor, Oklahoma, while also operating a facility on behalf of Covestro LLC in Baytown, Texas. The company's website is www.lsbindustries.com.
LSB Industries serves two principal markets: industrial and agricultural. The industrial segment includes the manufacture and sale of nitric acid, industrial acids, and specialty chemical products primarily serving the polyurethane intermediates, paper, fibers, emission control, and electronics industries. The agricultural segment focuses on nitrogen-based fertilizers, including urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) and ammonia sold to farmers, ranchers, fertilizer dealers and distributors throughout the United States and parts of Canada. In 2025, the company's product mix consisted of ammonium nitrate and nitric acid representing 39 percent of consolidated net sales, UAN at 31 percent, ammonia at 24 percent, and other products at 6 percent.
The company employs 513 persons as of December 31, 2025, with 144 employees represented by unions under collective bargaining agreements. LSB Industries benefits from strategically located chemical assets with advantageous logistics and distribution capabilities, including access to the Sunoco LP ammonia pipeline at the El Dorado Facility and barge access via the Tennessee River at the Cherokee Facility. The company maintains access to low-cost natural gas in the United States relative to international markets, providing significant cost advantages compared to production facilities in Europe.
LSB Industries' business model emphasizes balancing the sale of products as fertilizer into agricultural markets at spot prices with developing and maintaining industrial customers that purchase substantial quantities under contractual obligations with raw material cost pass-through provisions. This product and market diversification strategy aims to reduce volatility risk inherent in commodity pricing and agricultural market seasonality. The company's flexible production process and storage capability allow it to shift product mix based on end market demand. Five customers accounted for approximately 32 percent of consolidated net sales in 2025.
