Matthews International Corporation (NASDAQ: MATW) operates as a global provider of memorialization products, industrial technologies, and brand solutions. Founded in 1850 and incorporated in Pennsylvania in 1902, the company maintains its principal executive offices at Two NorthShore Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with operations spanning more than 145 locations across 18 countries. The company employs over 5,500 people globally and maintains its corporate website at www.matw.com.
The company operates through three primary reportable segments. The Memorialization segment manufactures and markets bronze and granite memorials, caskets, cremation-related products, embalming chemicals, cremation and incineration equipment, and architectural products primarily for cemeteries, funeral homes, and crematories. The Industrial Technologies segment designs and manufactures high-tech custom energy storage solutions for lithium-ion batteries and fuel cells, product identification and warehouse automation technologies including order fulfillment systems, and coating and converting lines for packaging, pharmaceutical, foil, and tissue industries. The Brand Solutions segment consists of a cylinders business and a 40 percent ownership interest in Propelis, a leading global provider of brand solutions formed through a joint venture transaction completed in May 2025.
In fiscal 2025, consolidated sales totaled approximately $1.5 billion, with the Memorialization segment generating $809.5 million, Industrial Technologies $342.2 million, and Brand Solutions $345.9 million. Geographically, approximately 71 percent of sales originated from North America, 24 percent from Europe, 3 percent from Asia, and 2 percent from other regions. The company holds in excess of 100 domestic and foreign patents and maintains numerous trademarks and trade secrets supporting its intellectual property portfolio. Matthews competes on the basis of product quality, design innovation, delivery capability, customer responsiveness, and comprehensive product lines across its diversified end markets, which include the relatively stable casketed and in-ground burial market alongside the growing cremation market, industrial manufacturing, and consumer goods and retail sectors.
