The business

MSA Safety Incorporated (NYSE: MSA) operates as the global leader in advanced safety products, technology and solutions, serving workers and facility infrastructure across diverse end markets worldwide. The company maintains its headquarters at www.MSAsafety.com and has been at the forefront of safety innovation since 1914.

The company's comprehensive product portfolio spans three principal categories: detection systems, fire service equipment, and industrial personal protective equipment. Detection offerings include fixed gas and flame detection systems used in energy, utility and HVAC-R applications, portable gas detection instruments, and refrigerant monitoring solutions. Fire service products encompass self-contained breathing apparatus, firefighter helmets under the Cairns and Gallet brands, and protective apparel through subsidiaries Globe Holding Company and Bristol Uniforms. Industrial PPE includes the iconic V-Gard hard hat brand, fall protection equipment, air-purifying respirators, eye and face protection, and ballistic helmets. The company also deploys MSA+, a turnkey ecosystem combining hardware, software and services to generate recurring revenue.

MSA organizes its business into two reportable segments: Americas and International, tailored to distinct regional customer preferences and distribution channels. The Americas segment primarily utilizes distributor networks, while the International segment employs both direct and indirect sales channels. The company maintains over 1,800 authorized distributor locations worldwide.

As of December 31, 2025, MSA employed approximately 5,300 people globally, with roughly 2,200 in the United States and 3,100 outside the country. Approximately twenty percent of the global workforce operates under collective bargaining agreements or works councils. The company maintains sophisticated research and development facilities in the United States, Germany, France, China and South Africa, supporting its commitment to innovation and first-to-market product development.

MSA's competitive advantages derive from its comprehensive product line, strong brand recognition, significant intellectual property portfolio including numerous patents and trademarks, integrated manufacturing capabilities, and deep customer relationships built through specialized sales and technical training. The company competes in a highly fragmented market where purchases are often mandated by government and industry regulations, supporting non-discretionary demand for safety products and solutions.

Fund ownership counts N-PORT filers only, so it is a floor rather than a census — pensions, insurers and direct holders are not visible here, and the remainder is not “held by individuals”.

Fund ownership is a subset of institutional 13F ownership — the two describe overlapping populations and must not be added together.
