Neogen Corporation (NASDAQ: NEOG) operates as a global developer, manufacturer and marketer of products and services dedicated to food and animal safety. The company's website is www.neogen.com.
Neogen operates through two primary reportable segments: Food Safety and Animal Safety. The Food Safety segment develops diagnostic test kits, culture media, and complementary products sold to food and animal feed producers, processors, laboratories and regulatory agencies. These solutions detect foodborne pathogens, spoilage organisms, natural toxins, food allergens and environmental sanitation indicators. Key product lines include tests for natural toxins and allergens, bacterial detection systems, the Molecular Detection System using loop-mediated isothermal amplification technology, Reveal immunoassay products, Petrifilm plating systems, the Soleris system for spoilage organism detection, and Neogen Analytics software-as-a-service offerings for food safety data management.
The Animal Safety segment encompasses veterinary instruments, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, topicals, parasiticides, diagnostic products, rodent and insect control products, and genomics testing services. Notable brands include Ideal and Prima Tech veterinary instruments, NeogenVet animal care products, Ramik and CyKill rodent control solutions, and Prozap insect control products. The segment also operates six genomics laboratories offering DNA genotyping and sequencing services for livestock and companion animals. In March 2026, Neogen announced a definitive agreement to sell its Genomics business to Zoetis Inc. for $160 million.
As of May 31, 2026, Neogen employed 2,636 people worldwide, with 1,346 in North America and 1,290 internationally. The company maintains manufacturing facilities in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland and Brazil, and provides genomics services across six countries. Neogen maintains direct sales presence in 28 countries outside the United States and operates through a network of distributors in more than 100 countries. International sales represented 51.2 percent of total revenues in fiscal 2026.
The company's growth strategy emphasizes increasing sales of existing products, introducing innovative offerings, expanding international operations and pursuing strategic acquisitions. Neogen was formed as a Michigan corporation in 1981 and completed a significant transaction in September 2022 combining 3M's Food Safety Division with Neogen through a Reverse Morris Trust structure.
