NL Industries, Inc. (NYSE: NL) operates as a holding company primarily engaged in the component products and chemicals industries through its subsidiaries and equity investments. The company maintains its website at www.nl-ind.com.
Through its majority-owned subsidiary CompX International Inc. (NYSE American: CIX), NL Industries manufactures engineered components sold to diverse industries including postal services, recreational transportation, office and institutional furniture, cabinetry, tool storage, healthcare, gas stations, and vending equipment. CompX operates three production facilities in the United States and produces mechanical and electrical cabinet locks, locking mechanisms, wake enhancement systems, stainless steel exhaust systems, gauges, throttle controls, and trim tabs. The Security Products business manufactures cabinet locks and locking mechanisms including disc tumbler locks, pin tumbler locks, and innovative electronic locks such as CompX eLock and StealthLock. The Marine Components business manufactures specialty products for ski and wakeboard boats and performance boats. CompX holds significant North American market share in cabinet lock security products and serves approximately 3,000 customers globally, with the United States Postal Service representing 26 percent of sales in 2025.
Through a 31 percent ownership stake in Kronos Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: KRO), NL Industries participates in the global titanium dioxide pigments market. Kronos is a leading producer and marketer of value-added TiO2 pigments used in coatings, plastics, paper, inks, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and other applications. Kronos operates six TiO2 production facilities across Europe and North America, including plants in Germany, Belgium, Norway, Canada, and Louisiana. The company produces TiO2 using both chloride and sulfate processes and operates an ilmenite mine in Norway. Kronos also manufactures iron-based chemicals and specialty chemicals as co-products and byproducts. In 2025, TiO2 pigment sales represented approximately 90 percent of Kronos' net sales, with coatings accounting for 59 percent of sales volume, plastics 30 percent, and paper 8 percent. Kronos maintains production facilities strategically located near water sources and holds ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management certifications at five of its six facilities.
