nLIGHT operates through two reportable segments: the Laser Products segment, which encompasses semiconductor lasers, fiber lasers, and fiber amplifiers, and the Advanced Development segment, which focuses on research, design, and prototyping of advanced and next-generation laser technologies for directed energy and laser sensing applications.

The company serves three primary end markets: Aerospace and Defense, Industrial, and Microfabrication. In the Aerospace and Defense market, lasers are used in range finding, imaging, communications, and directed energy weapon systems. The Industrial market encompasses material processing applications including cutting, welding, additive manufacturing, cladding, and heat treating. The Microfabrication market involves creating microscale structures through laser-based precision manufacturing techniques.

nLIGHT maintains significant vertical integration, manufacturing critical elements including semiconductor laser chips and optical fiber in-house at primary facilities located in Camas and Vancouver, Washington; Hillsboro, Oregon; Longmont, Colorado; and Lohja, Finland. The company employs over 800 full-time employees worldwide, with approximately 700 based in the United States. nLIGHT sells to and supports over 300 customers globally, with the top ten customers accounting for approximately 75 percent of revenues. The company's backlog totaled $161.6 million as of December 31, 2025, with an additional $184.4 million in unfunded government contract value. The company's vertical integration enables rapid design cycles and protection of proprietary technologies and manufacturing processes, providing competitive advantages in serving demanding defense and commercial markets.
