Founded in 1999, Northpointe Bank initially established itself as a focused mortgage portfolio lender primarily serving the midwestern states of Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. Today, the company has evolved into one of the largest banks headquartered in Michigan and one of the largest providers of mortgage warehouse financing in the country. The bank operates as one of the few mortgage-focused banks in the United States, leveraging a digitally-enabled platform to serve clients nationwide across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The company operates through two primary business segments. The Mortgage Purchase Program provides independent mortgage banking platforms nationwide with collateralized mortgage purchase facilities, offering an alternative to traditional mortgage warehouse lending. These facilities enable clients to close and fund mortgages that are subsequently sold into the secondary market or securitized. The Retail Banking segment encompasses residential lending, digital deposit banking, and loan servicing operations. Within residential lending, the company offers conventional, government, and non-qualified mortgage loans through Consumer Direct and Traditional Retail channels, along with specialized first-lien home equity lines tied to demand deposit sweep accounts. The digital deposit banking platform provides competitive deposit products nationwide, while the loan servicing division handles specialized loan administration and investor services.
Operationally, Northpointe maintains a centralized operating center in Grand Rapids, Michigan, supported by loan production offices across 25 cities in 15 states. As of December 31, 2025, the company employed 483 full-time employees and 8 part-time employees. The company's business model emphasizes digital delivery systems combined with personalized service, enabling it to dynamically scale operations with mortgage industry volume changes while maintaining cost discipline and generating attractive financial performance across market cycles.
