The company designs, manufactures, and markets precision technology products including laser beam steering and scanning solutions, laser sources, robotic and precision motion systems, robotic end-of-arm tooling, air bearing spindles, medical insufflators, endoscopic pumps, imaging and RFID solutions, advanced motion control systems, light engines, and integrated operating room technologies. The company operates through two reportable segments. The Automation Enabling Technologies segment generated approximately 51 percent of revenue and serves advanced industrial processes, robotics, and medical laser procedures through products sold primarily to OEM customers. The Medical Solutions segment accounted for approximately 49 percent of revenue and provides medical-grade technologies for minimally invasive surgery, life sciences, and clinical applications. For the year ended December 31, 2025, the medical market represented 53 percent of total revenue while the advanced industrial market represented 47 percent.

Novanta employs approximately 3,000 people globally, with roughly 36 percent based in the United States, 55 percent in Europe, and 9 percent in Asia. The company maintains manufacturing operations across multiple facilities in North America, Europe, and Asia, with the majority of production certified under ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 standards. The company serves a diverse customer base including global leaders in medical and advanced industrial markets, with two OEM customers each representing approximately 12 percent and 11 percent of consolidated revenue during 2025.

Founded in 1968 as General Scanning Inc., the company transformed through strategic acquisitions and divestitures, changing its name to Novanta Inc. in 2016. Recent acquisitions include Keonn Technologies in 2025, Motion Solutions Parent Corp. in 2024, and ATI Industrial Automation in 2021, reflecting the company's strategy of expanding its portfolio through complementary medical and advanced industrial technology acquisitions.
